Bengaluru city bus pass will now be available online, here's how you can get one

This will include cashless payment for BMTC tickets and ETMs installation

Soon, Bengalureans will be able to purchase BMTC daily, weekly, and monthly passes via a mobile app. On Thursday, the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) announced a partnership with Tummoc, a city-based start-up, to introduce bus passes via its mobile app.

BMTC officials said passengers of all buses including non-AC ones will be able to purchase passes through a mobile app. To obtain these passes, passengers must first download the Tummoc app. As of now, many passengers have to visit TTMCs and bus stations to obtain passes. Meanwhile, the official mobile app for the BMTC will be available in two to three months.

According to BMTC MD V. Anbu Kumar, all electronic payments, including QR codes, will be accepted for the purchase of passes, which can be downloaded from the mobile app. "Cashless payment is available for all buses for passes, while electronic machines will be available for AC buses. The pilot will be launched in 1,000 buses at once. These are aiming for conductor-less operations by 2023, reducing the need for manual interaction. The pilot will begin immediately - within a few days - to go conductor-less by January 2023," he said.

Tummoc will also rent out approximately 1,400 advanced Electronic Ticketing Machines (ETMs), which will primarily be used on Vajra and Vayu Vajra AC buses. At the moment, approximately 5,500 buses are operational, but only approximately 2,000 ETMs are operational. Manually issued paper tickets are inconveniencing both conductors and passengers.

In 2019, BMTC and another start-up launched 'BMTC Namma Pass,' a digital ticketing service for the Volvo Vajra service. Passengers, particularly those heading to ITPL and Electronics City, responded positively to the BMTC. It was later discontinued, following the pandemic.
